Description

This is a beautiful First World War German G98 bayonet that is in excellent field used condition. The blade is full length measuring 20½ inches and is with the original factory tip. It has been sharpened, but this was done ages ago as can be seen upon close examination. The finish is bright with no nicks, rust, or pitting. The ricasso is marked “V.C. SCHILLING - SUHL”. The spine is marked near the cross guard with the Imperial German crown and “W” proof marks and with the date, “06”. The chestnut-colored wooden grips are with sharp diagonal lies and some old dents and light scratches from actual field use. The pommel is marked with two Imperial waffen amps. The locking mechanism functions freely moving in and out smoothly. The black leather scabbard remaining intact with no bends, cracks, or breaks. Both steel fittings are present and held in place by the original steel staples. The stitching on the reverse side of the scabbard is completely intact. The bayonet moves smoothly in and out of the scabbard and is with a ⅛ gap between the cross guard and scabbard throat due to age shrinkage. This is a fine example as issued to pre-war Imperial German Infantry for use with the Gewehr 98 Mauser Rifle.
