    Description

Description: WWI Era German Seitengewehr Model 1884/98 Bayonet with steel scabbard for use on a Gewehr 98. Produced in the late years of the war as a smaller, and more cost efficient alternative to the Seitengewehr 98 models used earlier. These bayonets do not feature a muzzle ring or quillion. They came in two variants, one with a saw-back design and the plain variant we see here. This particular bayonet has no markings for serial number or producer. The name "Miguel" is carved on the handle. This model of bayonet was produced and used by the German armed forces in Europe as well as expeditionary forces in the Middle East and Africa up through the second world war.
Measurements: 9 3/4" blade. 15" total bayonet length. 16" with scabbard. 1" blade width, with 1 1/2" guard.
Weight: 1 lb. 5 oz. total weight. 15 oz Bayonet.
Condition: Various markings on the handle and some wear to the blade but overall in good condition. Paint loss and surface rusting on scabbard as expected with an item of this age. Please see photos for details.
