Description

Pre-WWI Alex Coppel Solingen German Bayonet with Scabbard. Ricasso is marked "Alex Coppel" over Solingen" and has his typical scales mark. The crossguard and the ball finial both have "LR" with a crown over it (the "L" is very faint), there is also a "2" on the reverse side of the ball finial. Everything is tight with typical wear, except for the wood grip that has "S.M.", "F.M.", and "7M" etched into it. Push button is functional. Muzzle hole opening is 11/16". The blade is straight, has been sharpened, it is clean, and
does have some age spots throughout
. The scabbard is solid, no dents, but does have some light surface rust throughout. Length of the blade measures 20 7/16" (13/16" wide x 7/16" thick spine), length of the bayonet is 25 1/4", and overall in the scabbard it is 25 15/16".
It is not known for sure which country Coppel made these Gras Rifle M1874 bayonets, although it is rumored to have been for Belgium. I also read that it may have been made as a trial bayonet for an experimental Remington Nagant Rolling Block Rifle.
