Description
Sony CDR-W66 Professional CD Recorder with remote controlI believe that I’m the second owner of this Sony CDR-W66 professional CD recorder which I purchased about 6 years ago. It was my intent to capture vinyl to CD, but that project never happened. As a result, the recorder has been sitting unused and under cover in my pet-free smoke-free home. You will be
very
hard pressed to find a CDR-W66 in better condition.
In the interest of full disclosure, I bought this recorder in 2015 with a failed CD drive. I purchased, installed and tested a new and unused drive of the same model as the original. I’ve tested the drive and recorder again using all three supported CD formats preparing for this listing – details follow.
I’ve run the following tests in the last month or so preparing to list this recorder.
Ø
unbalanced analog audio I/O using a tablet and powered speaker
Ø
optical digital audio I/O using a Mac Mini
Ø
I recorded, finalized and played all three supported CD formats: Standard data CD-R, data CD-RW, and Music CD-RW. These three test discs will be sent along with the CDR-W66.
Ø
All buttons on the CDR-W66 panel and on the remote are tested and working.
Ø
I also tested the wired remote connection and external keyboard input.
The sale includes just the CDR-W66 recorder, matching remote control and three test discs as described above. The user manual is available off the web.
Cosmetic condition is very good to excellent as shown in the photos with just a few minor scrapes on the top cover. The front panel is pretty much as-new. The remote batteries were never stored in the remote and there has never been any damage to the remote from battery leakage. As noted above, I replaced a failed CD drive with a new unit in 2015.
Please see the photos and judge the cosmetic condition for yourself. A few minor marks on the top cover, but that’s about it for cosmetic flaws.
Headphones, keyboard, USB to IBM keyboard adapter, iPad and audio cables are, of course,
not
included.
This recorder is known for the exceptional Sony Super Bit Mapping analog to digital converters and processing that capture audio at 24-bit resolution and merge information from the 24-bit stream into the recorded 16-bits. The CDR-W66 includes numerous professional level features with a variety of digital I/O formats and built-in audio processing capabilities.
Web search for “Sony CDR-W66 Review”… this excerpt is copied from a ProSound News review:
I must confess that I have never been a big fan of standalone CD burners. I mean, when I can use my Mac’s CD-R/RW drive for data as well as music (at up to 8X) – and when it enables me to use blank discs costing pennies instead of dollars – why do otherwise? Now, however, Sony has given me reason to reconsider. Its new CDR-W66 standalone pro burner adds enough unique functionality – and lets you use low-cost “data” CD-R/RW blanks – to give it legitimate studio presence: balanced as well as unbalanced I/O, digital I/O in both consumer S/PDIF and pro AES/EBU formats, and onboard DSP to perform EQ and dynamics processing to your burned discs.
