A bit of research on the web indicates that N. A. Strain was a man
named Numa A. Strain (1856-1948), who was born in Indiana, and
who spent some years as a cowboy, before moving to California.
Strain spent about seventeen years managing a ranch in Los Angeles
County, before becoming the Roadmaster of the San Gabriel district.
His wife was Georgia Eugenia Chappell Strain (1871-1957).
Together, they had three children: Numa, John, and Catherine.
Numa A. Strain, Jr. (1896-1969) became a successful artist,
working in California and New York.
The envelope appears to be signed by Numa A. Strain above his address.
The envelope is about 4" by 7".
