RICHARD GATLING. Richard Gatling (1818–1903) was the inventor of the eponymous machine gun which has been estimated to have killed over 250,000 men since 1862.
RICHARD GATLING INK SIGNATURE WITH A CLOSING SENTIMENT WRITTEN A YEAR AFTER GATLING RESIGNED AS PRESIDENT OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF INVENTORS AND MANUFACTURERS
Ink signature with a closing sentiment “Yours Truly, R. J. Gatling, Cleveland, March 9th, 1898” on an off-white card. A bold example written a year after Gatling resigned as President of the American Association of Inventors and Manufacturers. The card measures 3.5” by 2.5” and is in fine condition with a sticker and annotation written on the verso “Inventor of the Gatling gun, Dr. Robert J. Gatling”. The signature has been authenticated by and is accompanied with documentation from Dreweatts and Bloomsbury Auctions, the leading autograph auction house in Europe.
