Lot of Three Letters Alabama Mississippi Hotels 1908Description:
Love Letters by a Man Traveling for Work in Alabama and Mississippi. Alabama and Mississippi: 1908-1909. A collection of three letters, totalling 16pp, plus a 1pp fragment of a letter. The letters are written on hotel stationery, with accompanying envelopes--one is written from the Central Hotel in Starkville, Mississippi, and two are written from Hotel Echols in Decatur, Alabama. A group of love letters from a man named Robert to Ethel Jenkins of Nashville, Tennessee during a rail trip throughout Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee, likely while working for the Germo Company (he mentions a corporate gift from them). Robert mentions his comings and goings, but expends most of his energy expressing his love for Ethel, his hopes to see her, and his hopes for the future: "so, after all the happiness of a home lies chiefly in the relations between its occupants; therefore, the most palatial home may have nothing of you in it, while the humble little cottage, occupied by two hearts full of love, the one for the other, makes the homea veritable little paradise." Ethel was working as a nurse in a Nashville hospital at the time; at one point Robert exhorts her to quit her job, telling her she is too fragile for nursing. Overall in excellent condition with a hint of toning, tears to envelopes. [4259]
