Imperial German Ersatz Double Muzzle Ring Bayonet with Scabbard S/N # 58108

Description

Imperial German Ersatz Double Ring Bayonet + Scabbard.  Bayonet measures 14-1/2" overall with a blade length of 9".  Shows age patina, wear, use, wear, scratches, the point end is slightly blunted.  Unusual shape with serial no on right side of handle, 58108.  Main muzzle wiggles a bit.  Ersatz bayonets were the direct result of the re-allocation of priorities for the German War Effort.  Heavy Industry was needed for the more complicated weaponry of war; therefore, simplified bayonet patterns that could be quickly and easily produced by small shops.  The term "Ersatz" can be translated as "Substitute". *
