    Description

Superb genuine WW II era badge for the British and American Ambulance Corps  patented in 1940 (patent #122211 granted in August 1940) in totally perfect excellent shape with no enamel having been cracked off or touched up. Nothing broken, nothing repaired, nothing re-touched.
Red, white and blue enamel British flag shield with the R.A.F.-style wings and the Royal Navy-style "Admiralty" anchor and rope -all topped with a royal crown with fleur-des-lys and a "cross pattee" at the top. Gold plated metal. The plating shows minimal expected wear at the high locations.  On the reverse, the Silson hallmark and "pat pending" are seen. The clasp works perfectly and is fully secured yet moves freely on its hinge -as it should. The item is just over 2 inches wide and just over 2 inches in height.
One of the most sought-after and attractive items that the Victor Silson company produced. Many were sent overseas and not many can be found today. These items started to be made in the early stages of World War II before the US was officially engaged. There were a few organizations that rallied to the help of the British by supplying (non-military) aid to the country. This was an expensive item sold to help raise money and would be worn to show your support of Great Britain's dire fight. Priced below what I paid for it.
Reference to the item can be found in the book "A Tribute to America" by Carla and Roberto Brunialti on page 57 and 58.
