    Description

E.A. Wallis Budge handwritten letter to "Lady Cynthia," dated 1929. From the content, it's clear that the recipient is LADY CYNTHIA COLVILLE, a "Woman of the Bedchamber" to Queen Mary. The title refers to a Lady-in-Waiting who attends to, and is a companion to, the Queen. Colville, for example, was tasked with informing the Queen of the death of her son, George VI.
A REMARKABLE letter, where Budge is discussing what looked to be the immanent death of King George V with Ms. Colville. The King was very ill at the time, but would ultimately rally, and live another six years.
In part (H.M. is short for "Her Majesty", referring to Queen Mary):
"I am honored and delighted with H.M.’s ?, and about that I am very pleased to receive a note from you. You put ? your own gracious personality in your letters, and I feel ? ? had one from H.M. and another from
    you
    !
"I am so glad H.M. found things to ? her with Mrs. Gorst...I do so want H.M. to have an interest in these outside things, for the load which she is carrying so gracefully and bravely is a heavy one, and distraction must be needed. ?
    did
not ?, and the strongest bows will break if over strung. I shall be as glad when H.M. the king is at Sandringham. I feel that his root tree is there, and his beloved hearthstone. May God keep him in the palm of His hand!
    "I hope that you are
    very
well + I am glad you are with H.M. I feel that you have ? and ? – forgive my boldness."
One page, 8" x 10". Very Good Condition, with moderate creasing, the signature just a bit light.
