In 1889 Denmark adopted a very unique and unusual bayonet for the KRAG JORGENSEN RIFLE designated the DANISH MODEL 1889 BAYONET . This bayonet was forged from a single piece of steel and had an unusual locking mechanism. From 1889 through 1892 these bayonets were made in Germany and had checkered pressed leather grips. In 1893 Denmark started making their own Model 1889 Bayonets with wooden grips . The leather grips on the earlier German made bayonets were replaced with wooden grips when the leather grips wore out. This is the 1st Model , a GERMAN MADE DANISH MODEL 1889 BAYONET with CHECKERED PRESSED LEATHER GRIPS made prior to 1893 and manufactured in GERMANY by ALEX. COPPEL, SOLINGEN. CHECKERED PRESSED LEATHER GRIPS have 4 kills
