A German Sword Bayonet for the Gewehr 98 Mauser Rifle

This is the second pattern or "neuer Art." with the two-piece wood panels.
It has the Eichorn hallmark on the left side of the ricasso.  The back of the catch is numbered "639."  I don't see any other markings on this piece or signs that markings have been removed.
The overall length is 25-5/8 inches and the blade is 20 inches.
The grips are solid and secure. The blade has a slight wave that's not noticeable until it's viewed along the spine from the pommel end.  The blade and guard are securely connected but have a little play on the handle.
The blade may have been sharpened long ago but it doesn't have a sharp edge now.  The tip is good, with just a small burr.
A decent looking piece overall.
