Description
Here is the ADCOM GCD-700 5 disc CD changer, which deserves a place on the rather short list of true audiophile-grade multi compact disc changers. This example had had just one previous owner since being purchased new in Seattle in 1998. It is working as it should except for one issue (described below), it looks virtually like new, and it has the original remote control, also in beautiful condition, as well as a reprint of the original owner's manual. The one function that has a quirk is the tray loading mechanism. The front panel open/close button does not work, however the tray does open and close normally using the button on the remote control, so it seems that the issue is isolated to the front panel switch itself. The previous owner advised us that the switch was working when he put the ADCOM into storage in 2015, so perhaps it just needs some gunk cleaned from contacts in the switch or circuit. Because the changer has this quirk, and should be inspected and serviced, we are officially describing it as being being "for parts or repair only" with no guarantees, and we are not accepting returns.
The GCD-700 was ADCOM's most fully evolved multi-disc changer with dual 20 bit Burr-Brown digital analog converters -- a big upgrade over the preceding GCD-600 model. It has a coaxial digital output as well as the analog outputs, so you may use it as a disc transport with an outboard DAC if you prefer. There is a variable volume output as well as the standard fixed, so you can connect the GDC-700 directly to a power amplifier and control volume from the CD remote for the most direct possible signal path, or use the variable setting to help balance the CD volume level with your other sources connected to the same integrated amplification. The carousel is able to rotate in both directions, so if you want to call up the disc behind the one you are playing, it will rotate just one position backward instead of making you wait as it rotates through four positions ahead. See more about features and the specs in the accompanying images.
This ADCOM GCD-700 could use a little bit of TLC as mentioned above, but it is otherwise in such fine condition -- it will definitely make a rewarding project. For current GCD-700 owners, this would make the ultimate back-up player or parts donor. The market value of the hard-to-find original remote control by itself is near our starting bid level for the complete bundle. Let's get this beautiful ADCOM player into its next home.
